Apura Ingredients Joins the International Sweetener Association (ISA)
September 15, 2017, Apura Ingredients announced that they have joined the International Sweeteners Association (ISA). The ISA is an international non-profit association that supports the science and regulatory supplier community for low and no calorie sweeteners. It was formed over 30 years ago and is recognized by the European Commission, national and international regulatory authorities, World Health Organization and has Non-Government Observer status with the Codex Alimentarius Commission which establishes international food standards. Its members include Coca-Cola, Heartland Food Products Group, Perfetti, and Dietary Foods, Ltd. (Sweet’nLow)
The ISA’s Mission
The ISA exists to inform and direct all relevant conversations about low calorie sweeteners and to advance the interests of their producers and users.
“Joining ISA will assist Apura Ingredients in its role of promoting the safety and efficacy of low calorie and no calorie sweeteners,” says Kerry Kenny, VP of Quality and Technical Support for Apura Ingredients. “Since their introduction into the market, the perception of low and no calorie sweeteners by the consumer has been debated. It is critical that science based evidence is communicated to debunk false perceptions and miscommunications to show low and no calories sweeteners are a valuable tool to assist consumers with maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle.”
The beverage industry has made the commitment to reduce the number of calories consumed per person in the U.S.A by 20% by 2025. This voluntary commitment by beverage manufacturers shows they are dedicated to offering a healthy alternative to the American consumer. The usage of low calorie and no calorie sweeteners is vital for the reduced calorie initiative and commitment by major beverage manufacturers.
